Matthew 14:13-21

13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

When facing roadblocks in life that present massive needs or unexpected pressures, where do you turn to find resolutions?  Our natural human default often points us to a scarcity mentality—focusing instantly on what we lack, feeling inadequate, and wanting to push problems away. In Matthew 14, the disciples looked at thousands of hungry people and saw only impossibility and inadequate resources. But Jesus redirects our focus entirely. Instead of waiting for perfect conditions, full expertise, or abundant reserves before we act, He invites us to bring our small, honest offerings directly to Him. When we hand Him our ordinary “five loaves and two fish,” His grace transforms our human scarcity into God’s faithful provision.

Three Anchors for Your Week:

  • Focus on What You Have: Stop fixating on what you lack or waiting until you feel like an expert. Bring your small steps, limited time, and simple obedience to Jesus, and let Him multiply your efforts.
  • Lead with Compassion: Even when exhausted, Jesus moved toward people with deep love. Don’t let daily busyness turn those around you into inconvenient interruptions.
  • Trust God to Meet Your Needs: Kingdom provision is never constrained by human limitations. Rest in God as your ultimate Provider, knowing He is faithful to satisfy your soul and supply what you need.

This week, whatever scarcity or wall you are facing, hand it over to Jesus and walk forward in confidence knowing you are not alone and that God will provide what you can’t see!
