Acts 7:30-34

30 “After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai. 31 When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to get a closer look, he heard the Lord say: 32 ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.
33 “Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. 34 I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’ s

Moses was in the middle of everyday work when he encountered the burning bush. God didn’t wait for him to get back to a sanctuary,  He met him right where he was at and said, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground”.

It is easy to view our current tasks as obstacles to our spiritual life. This passage seems to remind us that God is the one who sees the struggles of His people and comes down to meet them in the struggle. The structure of our daily lives, even the stressful parts, is exactly where God is present to point you in the direction He wants you to go.

Three Thoughts for Your Week:

  • What do you need to “take off” this week to be present with God? Is it the noise of digital notifications, the anxiety over a deadline, or the need to look “together” when you feel you have nothing more to give?
  • Moses’ burning bush happened during his work day. Recognize that God is with you in the details and struggles of the every day—these are opportunities to trust His provision.
  • We don’t have to be the sole architects of our success. Rest and refueling help clarify God’s hand and guidance in our lives.  What is your responsibility and what is God’s should be our thought process throughout the day.

Don’t try to “look” strong this week. Instead, reveal what is really going on inside and allow your Father in heaven to bring peace to the places you need it most.
Reminder from the Pastoral Prayer and Care team:
A pastor or member of the Pastoral Prayer team will be available on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9-12am or upon appointment on other days.   This is an effort we have been praying about to make pastoral care more available to our church family and will begin next week.  For those of you who are new ICEL Connect is located at Naamsestraat 106 in the center of Leuven.

Have a great week!
Blessings,
Eric Casteel
